Dubai-based Salam Sheriff was the lucky winner of The Gulf Indian Weekly’s 74th Read ‘n’ Win contest.

An elated Salam, who won himself a Haier Pad 3G Calling Tablet, told us that he was thrilled to have won the prize. While in our office to collect the tablet, he told us, “To me, getting lucky among so many applicants is the happiest thing!”

Salam, who works at the Mechanical Department of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), told us that he reads TGI every week, online. “I first spotted TGI in a clinic in Al Barsha, where I’d gone to see a doctor, around six months ago. I loved reading the publication. It makes you aware of what’s happening in India in a simple way. I don’t watch TV, so, this is a good source to stay connected with what’s happening back home. I’ve made it a point to read it online ever since,” said Salam.

When asked about his favourite sections, he said, “I read the entire publication, but my main focus is the education segment. My son, who is back in Chennai, is still in the 7th standard, but I want to be aware of what career options are open to him, when he grows up.”
